The audition process for prospective members is an important part of the learning experience we offer students. We want to get to know both the students playing abilities as well as their personalities. We are looking to build a dynamic group of young people who possess the ability to collaborate and work towards common goals.
▶︎ Programs for musicians between 13 and 19 years of age (by audition)
▶︎ 30 sessions per year of full orchestra rehearsals, sectional coaching & leadership training
▶︎ Regular orchestral coaching sessions with the professional musicians of Lions Gate Sinfonia
▶︎ Weekend retreat in the fall with intensive rehearsals & great social activities
▶︎ Two performances with the Lions Gate Sinfonia at Centennial Theatre
▶︎ Collaborative Christmas Concert and Final concert at Kay Meek Centre with partnered organization, Pro Arte.
▶︎ Additional community performances throughout the year
▶︎ Apprenticeship opportunities in technical & artistic production & arts management
▶︎ Tuition fee $700 - some bursary assistance available
Students should be prepared to play two pieces of their choice (unaccompanied) which best demonstrate their current ability. Students will also be asked to play a scale and sight-read a musical excerpt.
Students must be at least 13 years of age by September in order to begin the program. Suggested minimum level Royal Conservatory Grade 5 or equivalent.
An audition can be a stressful event for a young musician, but we have a very friendly process. Should you want to obtain more information or discuss coaching prior to your audition, please contact us.
We apologize, we are not able to accept concert piano students at this time. Thank you for your understanding.
